Zoom! Same Day Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is the process of colouring or lightening the shade of your teeth without removing any of the actual tooth itself. This is typically done with a whitening gel which is applied during the whitening treatment. The results we achieve for patients with teeth whitening in Hamilton, NZ - speak for themselves. We’ve had many satisfied customers from our teeth whitening services who leave brimming with happy white smiles as a result.
Are all teeth suitable for whitening?
Whitening may be done on live teeth and teeth that have had root canal treatment. Before having your teeth whitened, our dentists will check to make sure your teeth are suitable to be treated. Tooth whitening may make your old fillings or crowns look darker after treatment, so it is very important to be checked and advised of this before you proceed.
How do we whiten your teeth?
At Hamilton Dental, we use Zoom!® In-Surgery Zoom Teeth Whitening. A professionally supervised teeth whitening is safe for your tooth enamel, quickly and effectively lifting stains left by tea, coffee, tobacco, wine, and other staining substances to reveal a new, whiter smile.
Zoom! WhiteSpeed is the #1 patient-requested whitening brand in the U.S, it is clinically proven to whiten teeth up to eight shades in 45 minutes and has clinically superior results and efficacy versus other professional whitening alternatives.
Tooth whitening can be done at home (using a customised mouth tray system designed by your dentist) or at the clinic. We can provide a more effective tooth whitening system for use at home than the ‘do-it-yourself’ teeth whitening kits and whitening strips available at pharmacies.
In a study, Zoom! WhiteSpeed provided over 50% better results than the leading non-light competitor immediately following the procedure and after seven and 30 days. The Zoom! WhiteSpeed’s advanced blue LED technology greatly accelerates the whitening process, delivering dramatic results for you that you will love in just one office visit.
Other teeth whitening treatments are also available and you can talk to your dentist about the best option for your teeth.
An alternative teeth whitening treatment will see our dentists make an impression for a model of your teeth. A thin, custom-fitted, clear plastic tray that fits over your teeth is then made. At home, you place a whitening gel into the tray and place the tray over your teeth. This is worn for up to two hours daily or at night.
Results are usually seen after the first day, but maximum whitening may take 10-14 days. We will monitor your progress to ensure the best possible results.
Zoom! WhiteSpeed is recommended for a more immediate and longer-lasting effect for a brighter smile.
How is professional teeth whitening different from whitening your teeth at home?
We have already touched on the popularity of teeth whitening strips here in New Zealand (and around the world) and whilst these can be effective, they never provide the same impact as a professional teeth whitening carried out by a dentist.
One of the potential hazards of at-home teeth whitening kits is the risk of the bleaching agent leaking into your gums. Whist the quantity of this agent is regulated, there can still be issues that develop with sensitivity and even damage to your gum tissue.
Dentist teeth whitening not only provides a more polished finish, but professional teeth whitening can also deliver longer-lasting results than home kits. This can make professional teeth whitening a more cost-effective solution than teeth whitening strips and at-home kits.
Are there any side effects of teeth whitening?
Sometimes people will experience increased tooth and gum sensitivity during treatment, which goes away shortly after stopping the treatment. We recommend starting fluoride gel treatment two weeks before (available at the Centre) and taking a panadol an hour before to decrease sensitivity.
Can teeth with root fillings be whitened?
Yes, root-filled teeth are treated by placing bleach inside the tooth. A protective rubber shield is placed over the tooth, and the tooth is partly opened into where the root filling has been placed. The inside is cleaned and a bleaching material is placed inside. The tooth is temporarily resealed and left 7 – 10 days. Sometimes two or three applications may be necessary.
How long does teeth whitening last?
Over time your teeth can lose some of their whiteness. Foods with strong colouring like coffee and red wine will stain teeth faster. You may need to repeat the whitening process occasionally. After a professional in-chair whitening procedure, a take-home top up kit is usually fine to maintain whiter teeth and that bright smile.
How much does professional teeth whitening cost in NZ?
The cost of professional teeth whitening in NZ will depend on the type of teeth whitening treatment you decide on as well as the number of procedures needed to restore your teeth to their natural whiteness. You can chat with the team either over the phone or on your next visit to find out more.
